The Indian journey of Kawasaki Motors Limited, Japan began in 2009 with the launch of Ninja 650 and Ninja 250. Kawasaki was incorporated as India Kawasaki Motors Pvt. Ltd on 1st July 2010 and entered the Indian superbike market from July 2013.
Assembly of Z250, Ninja 300, Ninja 650, ER-6N, and Versys 650 motorcycles was started by IKM in the premises of its Indian partner in July 2013. Kawasaki’s Indian partner took care of the marketing, sales and after-sales services.
Marketing, Distribution, after-sales service started for Super Sports Bikes through its own dealers located in major cities in India from September 2013, Viz Ninja ZX-14R, Ninja ZX-10R, Ninja 1000, Z1000, Z800. Along with these Off-Road Bikes KLX110, KLX140 was introduced in the Indian market.
From April 01, 2017, the alliance with its Indian partner ceased, but this had strengthened and promoted Kawasaki brand experience to customers in conjunction with Kawasaki Global Marketing.
In July 2017 IKM established a new plant in Chakan, Pune, Maharashtra and from September 2017 the new plant commenced its operations. Ninja 1000 was the first motorcycle to be assembled in the new plant.
Currently, IKM sells 27 models in its 30 dealerships across the country with ORANGE KAWASAKI having its exclusive dealerships in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
IKM with an active and established R&D Center has more than 30 engineers who are always working towards developing a new model that is suitable for Indian market requirements and regulations.
